The Oystermen travelled to Aldershot for our biggest game of the season.

A county cup quarter-final against high-flying Southwood. The match started with both teams very cautious of each other. Emsworth started the game not how we wanted to, conceding a goal from a corner early on. Town with all the play and pushing Southwood back for most of the first half, Southwood picking their moments to attack against the run of play. The ball goes behind for a Southwood corner and Emsworth concede yet again by an unmarked striker.

Emsworth now chasing the game have their work cut out for them. Just before the break, inform Jake Lynch to find the net to give Emsworth hope and confidence going into the break. Rared up Emsworth smells blood this half as we start to dominate the half with possession, just missing that final product. A few half-time changes gave Southwood something new to think about. As the 2nd half goes on and Emsworth still hunting for a goal Braden Collins plays a long ball into the Southwood box only for a Southwood player to head it into his own net.

Emsworth have nicked an equaliser and keeps their Hampshire Cup dream alive. The 90 is up and we go to penalties. Tommy Hedgcock, Jake Lynch and Braden Collins step up for penalties and they don’t miss. Southwood feeling the pressure misses all 3 penalties, with an unbelievable save by George Perris for one. The Oystermen become the final Pompey team left in the competition and become one of the remaining 4 teams left in this year’s county cup!
