In conjunction with Hermitage Cellars we are now delighted to offer a new service, wines to drink at home. This month’s wine are produced by Darling Cellars who are situated in the relatively new wine region of Darling on the Cape’s cool climate west coast. With approximately 95% of all their vineyards being unirrigated (dry land) and roughly the same percentage being bush vines (i.e. not trellised), this is as close as one can get to what nature intended for grapes to be.
Darling Cellars Sauvignon Blanc 2019, Darling List £7.95
Introductory Offer £7.25
Planted strategically to capture cool Atlantic breezes, the vineyards that produce this fresh Sauvignon Blanc are all on south-facing slopes.
This is very fresh with notes of asparagus and tropical fruit including pineapple on the nose, followed by more tropical fruit on the palate with some zesty, citrus acidity leading to a nicely vibrant finish. A perfect quaffer and would work well with some simply prepared fresh seafood.
Darling Cellars SGM 2017, Darling List £7.95
Introductory Offer £7.25
A blend of Shiraz, Grenache and Mourvedre, this is a wonderfully drinkable red, very much in a Rhône style. The nose offers red plums, cherries and fresh crushed black pepper. The palate is very smooth with more red fruits, a touch of spice and a juicy finish. A really well balanced wine which over delivers at this price. You could serve it slightly chilled and it would happily work with smokey barbecued meats or a selection of roasted vegetables with middle eastern spices.
